I have been invited to become a featured publisher on FoodBuzz, a website that I’ve been describing to people as “Facebook for food blogs.” Basically, FoodBuzz will promote your blog and increase your traffic, and in exchange, you place a banner ad on your blog, “above the fold.” Which means, you can’t hide it or stick it on the bottom of your site.
Anyway, the advertising element is not going to generate me any income, but I do think that becoming a featured publisher will increase traffic to my site. I am blogging for other people, not just for myself, so increasing my audience is important to me.
I want you, readers, to know that if there are ads on here next week, it is not because I’m greedy or I sold out. I do not see myself using any other kind of ad service like Adsense or Amazon. I just think that the FoodBuzz program might be beneficial to me as a blogger. What do you think?
give it a try. make sure you are able to cancel the agreement if you are not happy with it.
Hi, Sarah,
I think many will understand if the foodbuzz thing shows up. I had thought of adding the foodbuzz ad to my wordpress blog, but ended up changing over to blogspot, who allow ads. Not sure if wordpress can allow foodbuzz or not…
But I really did need ads! I had written a cookbook, only to find that it has been quite challenging to market it. A whole other job in itself. So I kind of put the marketing on the back burner, and thought: I’ll just share a bunch of the recipes!
Then a friend said, “Jennifer, but you’re just giving away all the recipes! So who will buy the book?!” To which I thought, “Hummm, if I could generate a bit of income from Adsense or Amazon Affiliates, maybe all this time I spend on here (away from my “real job” at my deli) would be justified.
Needless to say, after months at it, I still haven’t generated even the minimum of $10 I need to generate to get them to send me a check at Adsense.
In conclusion! You’re probably on the right track, avoiding the extra advertising! But as you can tell from this wordy entry, there are those of us who feel especially compelled to try the ads… Sigh!

Thanks for your replies, liz and tom. I think I will try it, not to make any income, but to try and increase traffic.
